Happy to be by a large body of waterSmoke-free beach

Just read about Paul Valery who declared after writing a daily entry in his Cahiers: “Having dedicated those hours to the life of the mind, I thereby earn the right to be stupid for the rest of the day.” Now I feel justified to equate my writing an entry here, with permission to watch too much TV and play too much Scrabulous on Facebook…

Went for a rideabout yesterday. Started in Pilsen and then tried to find the quickest way to the beach, which I discovered is to take 29th St. over to the train-tracks, then to 31st St and there is the beach. The newly reconstructed 31st Beach is only 15-20 mins from my house. When I lived on the Northside, I rode frequently on the lakefront bike-path and always found it frustrating. It’s a constant battle to avoid running into pedestrians, strollers, skaters, skateboarders and other more professionally-garbed cyclists. I like to wear ordinary clothes while cycling and find it easier to wear high-heel shoes on a bike, than on the ground…My bike is an old Chicago Schwinn, made from solid steel and its sheer weight prevents speed.
